What happens if I miss a lesson?
Make up classes are only available for missed classes due to illness when a Medical Certificate is supplied. Parent/carer must advise our office that your child will be away prior to their lesson. There is a maximum of 2 make up classes per child, per term and they cannot be carried over to the next term.
Can my child use the pool before or after their lesson?Unfortunately the Aquatic Safety Training Academy is a vocational skills centre and does not have public swimming area.
What do I need to bring?
- To ensure your child gets the most out of their lessons, we ask that all children come prepared with well-fitted swim suits. All children enrolled in baby classes are required to wear a tight fitting swim nappy / or aqua nappy.
- Good quality well-fitted goggles and a towel are also essential items needed. Children with long hair should wear a swimming cap or tie their hair back.
- It is a good idea to pack a healthy snack and some warm clothes for after the lesson.
- Some classes will require children to bring a spare set of clothes to wear as part of their water safety activities. You will be notified in advance when they will be needed.
FLOATATION STATEMENT
At the Royal Academy Swim School we have made a conscious decision to not use floatation during swimming lessons. The aim of the Swim & Survive Program is to prepare children and their parents/carers for any aquatic event that may occur. With this in mind, children are not likely to fall into a body of water with floatation attached. Swim & Survive lessons strive to prepare both children and their parents/carers to help themselves and others in these events through activities that reflect many different aquatic environments, with an emphasis on not endangering themselves.
Can you please explain the level progression?
Swim and Survive – Wonder
A water familiarisation program for parents and their children aged 6 – 36 months. Wonder is designed to build on a child’s natural curiosity and fascination with the water and is taught with both a parent/carer and child in the water together. Parents will learn to be a strong part of their child’s aquatic education through activities that provide for developing water familiarisation, exploration and water safety skills.
Swim and Survive - Courage
A program that builds water confidence for preschool aged children between the ages of 3 - 5 years.
Courage is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety. The program builds water confidence and develops skills across a range of strands, commencing initially with parental participation for first time swimmers to children developing trust and learning through interacting independently with the instructor.
Swim and Survive - Active
Active is a swimming and water safety program for school aged children between the ages of 5-14 years. Active is a swimming and personal aquatic survival program that provides opportunities for learning and developing a range of essential swimming skills and knowledge. It is used to emphasise that skills learnt in the program not only save lives, but provide a foundation for participation in a range of aquatic recreation, fitness and sporting activities.
